What is a Health Spending Account?
A health spending account (HSA) is a 100% tax deductible deposit account. In the same way you use an R.R.S.P. account to save money specifically for retirement, a HSA is used for healthcare purposes.
The money you put into your health spending account can be used . . .
- For the reimbursement of expenses for any uninsured medical service or product provided or prescribed by a medical practitioner who is licensed in their jurisdiction.
- To pay co-insurance amounts of a traditional employee benefit plan.
- To pay premiums for personal family health plans.
- You can use a HSA or claim a Medical Tax Credit (MTC) on your tax return. The HSA puts more money in your pocket! Compare your savings by clicking here.
Some of the products and services considered to be eligible expenses with an HSA include:
| Preventative Care | Dental & Vision | Special Care Treatments |

* Prescribed, Dispensed, and/or Supervised by a Registered Medical Practitioner
